About us

In September 2023, Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner (Member of the Executive Board and Site Manager Ludwigshafen) opened the Ludwigshafen site together with Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Oberlinner (Medical Director of BASF), Johanna Coleman (Managing Director of BASF Wohnen + Bauen GmbH) and Beate Steeg (Alderman of the City of Ludwigshafen).
The old outpatient clinic building is history. After 80 years, it has had its day, and the Corporate Health Management department has moved into a modern building. The new BASF Medical Center between Gates 5 and 11 replaces the old outpatient clinic and the two decentralized rescue stations and bundles the entire diagnostics and acute care as well as the directly related units in one place. In a completely barrier-free building, you will find modern examination rooms, diagnostic facilities and consultations with short distances.
The five-story building (total area 11,500 square meters) is designed as a medical center for BASF employees and patients with statutory health insurance. Together with our partners, we guarantee holistic medical care far beyond the previous level.

Occupational medicine since 1866

A historical document proves: On December 3, 1866 – just one year after the company was founded – the physician Dr. med. Carl Knaps was hired as the first factory doctor. This date is also the birth of the first company medical service of the chemical industry in Germany, long before legal obligations existed.
It was a long way from the first company doctor to today's Corporate Health Management department. This more than 150 years of experience and the constant further development of high standards has led to know-how that is probably unique in the chemical industry for the benefit of employees, neighbors and customers.
